Many comprehensive policies handle glass repair on different terms from a full replacement. Some drivers find a chip repair is treated more favourably than they expected. Others find it is not covered at all. It genuinely varies by carrier, policy, and state.

Insurance support may be available depending on your provider and policy — that is the honest version of the claim you will see advertised elsewhere.

Questions worth asking your provider

A two-minute phone call to your insurer usually settles it. Have your policy number ready and ask directly:

• Does my policy include glass coverage, and does repair differ from replacement?
• Does a repair affect my deductible, and if so, how much?
• Do you require a specific shop, or can I use a mobile provider of my choice?
• Does a glass repair claim affect my premium at renewal?
• What documentation do you need from the repair provider?

If it turns out not to be covered
